Spreuken over Wetenschap

Like almost all others began with metaphysical discussions. The theory has advanced but the practical science is still in its infancy and the modern statesman is constantly short of facts on which he can base his speculations.

It's not really science-fiction, ... It's the world 30 years from now, [a time] in which for 18 years no human child has been born, for unknown reasons. Civilizations are falling apart. England is the last remaining civilization as we know it, because it's an island that's insulated itself from Europe, which is in civil wars and complete pandemonium. So the story takes place in that context. It's a story about hope and faith.

Computer Science is embarrassed by the computer.

People look to science to give them complete certainty, complete assurance, in the same way they look to religion.

This program is a terrific example of the blending of science and entertainment. It fits wonderfully with Calit2's mission of helping the public understand what research organizations like ours are doing and how it might impact their lives.
